As for me, I’ll very slowly make my way through this 12-pack and that’ll be it. However, if you’re not as sensitive to the flavor of aspartame, or maybe you simply like the flavor (which is certainly fine), or if you drink soda more often and still want to cut down on your sugar in your diet, maybe give this one a try. So, for me, I’ll definitely stick to regular Dews. Like, if I only ate chocolate cake once a month, I’d want it to be the best chocolate cake I could find. However, it’s like, if I’m already limiting myself down that much, I want to have the real thing. Now, any doctors out there would obviously say, “You shouldn’t drink any at all! It’s basically poison for you!” and they’re right. As such, going for Regular versus Unleaded is ok in my mind. I do my best to limit myself to 1 can on Friday and Saturday morning. Look, overall, I try to not drink a lot of soda. And, as it is wont to do, it sticks around for a bit after I finish the sip of soda.
That lime flavor is still there, sort of, but at least for me, the aspartame damn-near drowns it out. It almost overrides the regular flavor of the soda. Just that artificial-overly-sweet flavor. Though there’s maybe a bit of aspartame scent instead of high-fructose corn syrup scent. It smells certainly just like Baja Blast.
However, looking back at the photo from that review, this is pretty spot-on. Now, originally, I thought this looked a little more pale than the original Baja Blast. Will this basically ruin one of my favorite sodas? Let’s find out. But, I also remember the very first Mountain Dew Zero review and just how much aspartame aftertaste there was with it. It’s lime flavored, and limes are one of my favorite citrus (I prefer limeade to lemonade, for example).

Now, Baja Blast is one of my favorite flavors of Dew, just below Code Red at the top. Also, I did my grocery shopping early in the morning and the Taco Bell wasn’t open yet, so I couldn’t just stop in for a cupful and I didn’t want to make an extra trip out just to get it. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any of the regular version on the shelf, as I’d’ve preferred to do a side-by-side flavor comparison for this review. Baja Blast is usually exclusive to Taco Bell, but occasionally, PepsiCo will give us bottles and cans (clap your hands. It’s Baja Blast, also affectionately known by me and some of my friends as Pool Water for its resemblance to such. Though, unlike the last couple, this is a flavor I know well. Well, a week ago, I was doing my now-once-a-month grocery shopping and happened to see a couple 12-packs of a new Mountain Dew Zero variety. I’ll just be at the grocery store, looking for other stuff, but I always make a trek down the soda isle, just in case.
It’s always interesting when I come across these. And I’m back with another Mountain Dew review.
